15/03/2012. The United Nations Conference on Environment and Development held in 1992 suggested for the first time to celebrate any day as a World Water Day for the purpose of remembrance of the significance of fresh water for humankind. Based on this suggestion the UN General Assembly declared March 22 as the World Day for Water in 1993, and it has been celebrated since that year. Everyone in the world drink 2-4 l water per day, but more fresh water is used up for consumed agricultural products. In this regard, 15000 l water is consumed for 1 kg meat production, while up to 1500 l water is utilized for 1 kg wheat. Unfortunately water reserves have unequally been distributed among the countries all over the world. Billions of people suffer from the shortage of fresh and clean water. March 23 – World Meteorological Day
19/03/2012. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and its member states celebrate March 23 as the World Meteorological Day each year. The Republic of Azerbaijan acceded to the Convention of WMO in 1993, and now carries out international and regional data exchange, and performs the decisions approved by WMO by observing all requirements of this Convention.
The World Meteorological Organization established in Vienna in September, 1873, which is a specialized agency of the United Nations since 1951, is a successor of one of the oldest international organizations i.e. International Meteorological Organization (IMO). 19 years passed since the occupation of Kalbajar
02/04/2012. The natural resources of the invaded Kalbajar region have been pillaged for nineteen years. Current condition in the rivers of the Republic of Azerbaijan and in the transboundary rivers
12/07/2011. According to the National Hydrometeorology Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources in the early second decade of July diminution of water level was observed in the rivers of the Azerbaijan Republic. At the current time water richness holds 70-120 % of decade norm in the rivers of Major Caucasus, 70-130% in Lankaran-Astara region rivers, 80-110 % in the rivers of Minor Caucasus, and 100-140 % in the rivers of Nakhichevan AR. Current situation in the transit rivers Water consumption holds 172 m3/sec, i.e. 83% of decade norm (in 2010, 71% being 148 m3/ sec) in Qiraqkasaman settlement of Kura river, while 98 m3/ sec, i.e. 88 % of decade norm (in 2010, 85% being 95 m3/ sec) in Ayrichay settlement of Qanikh river. 11th International Pesticides Forum commenced
International Pesticides Forum was started in “Caucasus Riverside” hotel of Qabala region with the organization of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan and International HCH & Pesticides Association on September 7, 2011. The Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic Azerbaijan Husein Bagirov opening the Forum with indroductory remarks gave comprehensive information to the participants on implemented successive measures for settlement of urgent environmental problems in Azerbaijan on the basis of sustainable development principles, as well as environmental problems remained from the Soviet Union.
